James Wall

James Wall performs

James Wall is an exciting young trombonist (and singer), who just relocated from Tampa to New Orleans to join the legendary Dukes of Dixieland band. The “Dukes” are the house band onboard the Steamship Natchez, the last authentic steamboat that cruises on the Mississippi River. What a gig!

James lived in Tampa for 12 years, attending both high school and the USF School of Music, where he earned a master's degree. While at USF, he was a founding member of the Sokolowski Trombone Project, which won the prestigious “Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Award” in 2023.

Before moving to New Orleans full time, James was a frequent visitor, sitting in with another legendary group, the Onward Brass Band. James’ family has deep roots in New Orleans, which helped him fit right into the Big Easy, which he calls a “truly special town.”
