Forrest & Andrea Phoenix
Introducing Your Swing Dance Instructors
Forrest and Andrea Phoenix
Forrest Phoenix began dancing International style Ballroom at the age of eleven and teaching professionally in 1998. The consummate dance nerd, he has never stopped studying and expanding with multiple certifications from DVIDA, FADS, AMI, Brazilian Zouk Council, and the PDF. He began studying dance history in the early 2000's and years later (with the encouragement of his professors and mentors) began pursuing it in earnest. Scouring archives for gems of yesteryear and collecting stories from earlier generations has become his passion along with preservation of dances in a living form via reconstructions. His greatest joy is sharing the rich and diverse history of American ballroom dance and its many unique forms of evolution. - "I feel history has given me greater respect and insight into what is possible, as well as redefined dances as I know them."
Andrea Phoenix started learning Lindy Hop in 2002 and has been hooked on dancing ever since. She opened the doors to all kinds of dance, dabbling in gymnastics, ballet, modern, and eventually all other forms of partnered dance from Latin to vintage pre-swing. You can find her training and competing at nearly every high level Balboa event in the country. Andrea's first passion is connection and technique and she brings that energy into the classroom.
